Cades Cove Self-Guided Nature Trail
Marker #2 - Looking FORWARD

NUMBER 2-YELLOW POPLAR

Walking through the Nature Trail you come upon marker #2. This is where you will find the yellow poplar tree. The poplar is straight and tapers very little for at least forty feet along its knot free length. The yellow poplar was a favorite wood used for building tight cabins to keep out the cold of the long winter. Like the white pine, the soft, non grainy, poplar may find its way into your tables, shelves and meal bins.
