NUMBER 8-LICHENS

Lichens grow on old tree trunks and this is what the wives of the old timers used for dying cloth. The only thing she may want the garment to be cheery color and with the many natural dyestuffs here she may become frustrated with choices. Pokeberries, walnut hulls and morning glory blossoms will give her red, brown and gray-green. If she wants yellow she will need to gather the lichens on the old tree trunks.
