Podium #1: Cades Cove -- A Geological Window

     Coves are mountain valleys.  This particular cove is of interest to geologists because it is also a fenstor, or "window" in the rocks.  An overthrust plate of ancient rock has eroded away in the valley to expose younger rock underneath.  Normally, younger rocks are found on top of older rocks, but here the order is reversed.
